International Women's Day - 8th March 2016
Today is International Women's Day and I'm delighted to announce that CoinCorner are taking part by celebrating women in bitcoin.
The amount of women, or lack thereof, involved in the bitcoin industry around the world is widely reported. Research conducted by CoinDesk last year found that women in bitcoin are still a minority, with over 90% of bitcoin users identifying as male.
As a woman in bitcoin, let me reassure you that although outnumbered, the passion of the women in this industry more than makes up for the lack of presence. Check out The Top 40 Women of Bitcoin (sadly I didn't make the list!)
One thing I feel I should make clear is that the number of women in bitcoin has nothing to do with barriers. Everyone currently involved in bitcoin is keen to see it succeed and for that to happen, there can be no discrimination. Bitcoin is an open-sourced project after all.
Since joining CoinCorner last year (where, may I add, the team are all male except me) I've been welcomed and encouraged in this space.
To celebrate International Women's Day, we've changed the CoinCorner logo to pink for the day and we're giving away £5 of free bitcoin to all women who sign up for a CoinCorner account and deposit £100 between Tuesday 8th and Friday 11th March.
Happy International Women's Day 2016!
